About the Musical
The Musical is the revival of the original work by well-known Jamaican writer and playwright, Louis Marriott. It received positive critical reviews during its run at the Barn Theater in Kingston. Jamaica. The current revival is a bold attempt to revisit a play that was both educational and entertaining. It presents important episodes in the life of Alexander Bedward (c. 1848-1930). Bedward was a Jamaican preacher, healer and founder of the Bedwardite movement, one of the most influential religious and social movements in Jamaica before the rise of Marcus Garvey and Leonard Howell. His philosophy combined Christian teaching with social justice, Black dignity and resistance to oppression.
Patrons will be immersed in a dynamic musical under the direction of Micheal Forrest, with choreography by Yvonne Houston and musical director, Dr, Floyd Anderson. It will feature the combined talents of-
Allan Cunninghnam, Ricky Rowe, Malachi Smith, Father Horace Ward, Colin Smith, The Jamaican Folk Revue, Phillip Cross, Neville Williams, Nadine Brady-Taylor and Nina Lawrence.
